Disposition Authorities for Individual Classifications for Headquarters Case File. Part B: Classification 144. Interstate Transportation of Lottery Tickets.

This classification covers investigations of violations of legislation barring the transportation in interstate commerce of tickets or chances dependent upon a lottery under 18 U.S.C. Section 1301. Classification 144 was established in 1953. Prior to 1953, Classification 71, Bills of Lading, was used. In 1975, Congress exempted state lotteries from legislation covering lottery tickets generally.

The FBI established this classification when it assumed responsibility for ascertaining the protection capabilities and weaknesses of defense plants. Each plant survey was a separate case file, with the survey, supplemental surveys, and all communications dealing with a plant insofar as plant protection was concerned, filed together.
